Chapter Eleven

Kevin dropped down on Ms. Field’s bed. Derrick had changed the sheets to something “more manly” and had begun packing her personal effects into boxes for the women of the family to sort. Although her passing was still fresh, Derrick seemed to be handling it much better. Kevin had always admired Derrick’s ability to accept what was without holding on to what might have been. It felt like Kevin spent his entire life worrying about what might happen or how things could be different. Derrick never second guessed himself like that. He simply did what felt right and accepted the consequences.

“Turns out Mamma had a will, after all,” Derrick announced, thumbing through old papers.

Kevin threw his forearm over his eyes. The last thing he wanted to think about was the foolishness that usually accompanied the reading of the Last Will. Derrick’s family was better behaved than his, but the promise of money made people do crazy things.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m just tired. We need to be back home tomorrow,” Kevin said.

“It’s the end of the season for us anyway,” Derrick said with a shrug.

“Not helping.”

“Sorry.”

Kevin watched Derrick sort through his mother’s drawers, putting things in boxes reverently. He knew he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help but stare at the way his track pants hung from his hips, molding over his buttocks and flowing over his powerful legs. Derrick scratched himself, adjusting his crotch as if he could feel Kevin’s eyes roaming over his body. “I swear to God, man. I was not even thinking about that and then this happened. You think you could help me out?”

Derrick laughed, “You weren’t thinking about anything nasty, but your dick suddenly stood at attention?”

“Don’t laugh. This shit is not funny. At least, give me a hand job or something,” Kevin begged.

“You have two hands.”

“Yeah, but it's better if somebody else does it.”

“This is my mother’s room!”

“That’s why I’m saying just jerk me off,” Kevin whined.

“I thought you were afraid she would curse your dick. This could be like the last erection you ever get. You sure you want to waste it on a hand job?” Derrick teased Kevin.

“You wanna give me head?”

Derrick threw an old copy of Ebony at him for his impishness.
